Sunflower Seeds

The sunflower seed is the seed of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus).

Sunflower seeds are more commonly eaten as a snack than as part of a meal. They can also be used as garnishes or ingredients in various recipes. The seeds may be sold as in-shell seeds or dehulled kernels. The seeds can also be sprouted and eaten in salads.

Based on TCM sunflower seeds can be used to supplement the spleen, enriches the yin, and moistens the large intestine.

The preparation methods of sunflower seeds are raw, roasted, or as oil.

Sunflower seeds contains rich in fats and essential fatty acids, especially linoleic acid and lecithin, protein, carbohydrates, vitamin B1, B2, and D as well as calcium, and iron.

Some indications that can be reduced by sunflower seeds are:

   * Spleen/pancreas network vacuity: lack of drive, lack of strength, diarrhea.

   * Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis.

Goat’s Milk Cheese

Goats produce high-quality, nutrition-rich milk in even the most difficult environments making them valuable to arid or mountainous areas where cows and sheep can’t survive. Goats were one of the earliest animals domesticated to suit human needs- more specifically milk production- going back to 8,000 B.C., 10,000 years ago. Goat cheese has been made at least as far back as 5,000 B.C. Meanwhile, the first documented proof of humans making cheese is 7,500 years ago in Poland.

Based on TCM, goat’s cheese can be used to supplement and moves qi, warm stomach, and spleen, and nourishes yin.

The preparation methods of goat’s cheese are raw or melted.

Goat’s cheese contains rich in fat and protein, minerals.

Sardines

Sardines ("pilchards") are a nutrient-rich, small, oily fish widely consumed by humans and as forage fish by larger fish species, seabirds and marine mammals.

Based on TCM, sardines can be used to supplements qi, yang, and blood; warms stomach and spleen, and supplements kidneys.

The preparation methods of sardines are deep-fried, fried, grilled, or boiled.

Sardines contains protein, fat, minerals and a source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Some indications that can be reduced by sardines are:

  * Stomach and spleen vacuity: lack of appetite, lack of strength, indigestion, edema.

  * Kidney network vacuity: impotence, decreased libido, back pain and weakness, sinew and bone weakness.

Mackerel (Qīng yú - 鲭鱼)

Mackerel is a common name applied to a number of different species of pelagic fish, mostly from the family Scombridae. They are found in both temperate and tropical seas, mostly living along the coast or offshore in the oceanic environment.

Mackerel species typically have vertical stripes on their backs and deeply forked tails. Many are restricted in their distribution ranges and live in separate populations or fish stocks based on geography.

Based on TCM, mackerel can be used to supplements qi and blood and removes dampness.

Some indications that can be reduced by mackerel are swelling, edema, and rheumatism (damp impediment or shi bi).

Pork (Zhū ròu - 猪肉)

Pork is the culinary name for meat from the domestic pig (Sus domesticus). It is one of the most commonly consumed meats worldwide, with evidence of pig husbandry dating back to 5000 BC. Pork is eaten both freshly cooked and preserved.

The consumption of pork is prohibited in Judaism, Islam, and some Christian denominations such as Seventh-day Adventism.
